Civil Restraining Order

November 1, 2025

A civil restraining order, also known as a ‘Section 28 Order’, directs a person to stop engaging in certain unwanted behaviours against another person, such as stalking or harassment.

Stalking and harassment are patterns of unwanted behaviour that affect your daily life. They can cause you distress or make you fear that violence will be used against you. Examples include following or impersonating someone, making harmful threats, or repeated unwanted contact.

If you or someone connected to you is experiencing stalking or harassment, you can apply for a civil restraining order.

If you are under 18 years of age your parent or guardian can make an application for a civil restraining order on your behalf. If the Respondent is under 18, you will have to name their parent or guardian on your application.
